The Inn at Furnace Creek, a member of Historic Hotels of America since 2012, was built by the Pacific Coast Borax Company of Twenty Mule Team fame as a means to save their newly built Death Valley Railroad.Designed by prominent Los Angeles architect Albert C Martin and landscape architect Daniel Hull, the Inn was first opened for business in 1927.. Established by the U.S. Borax Company in 1927, the Inn at Furnace Creek has grown far beyond its initial 12 guestrooms. While considered the most upscale place to stay inside Death Valley, the Old West-style Furnace Creek Inn and Ranch Resort has two parts — the "inn" section and the "ranch" section.
